Han 1s, Han 2s

This class is designed for a 100% immersion in Mandarin. Children at this age are busy but they are always listening! They learn topics related to themselves and basic concepts such as numbers and colors through songs, movement and colorful visuals. Learning Mandarin is fun because we pack the class with engaging stimulation! We overlay Chinese lyrics onto familiar English preschool songs to enable the children to focus on the words.

PreSchool Prep

A caregiver must stay on our premises the entire class time.

20-30 months old Preschool Prep (must register for at least twice a week)
This is a 90-minute class for 20-30months olds who are transitioning to our drop off preschool program. Caretakers are required to wait outside the classroom for the entire duration of the class. This is a mini preschool where we follow a condensed version of the preschool structure. 

This class provides a 100% immersion in Mandarin. This is a 6 months curriculum students can switch to drop off preschool any time once they can separate without tears.  Students are required to attend twice a week.   Topics include colors, my body, my family, my school, weather, seasons and other fundamental themes.  

Here is a typical daily routine:

25 min Core Theme
15 min Music
10 min Art

Preschool Prep Early Drop Off
$20 per half an hour morning session from 9am to 9:30am. By appointment only with 48 hours advanced notice.

Preschool Alternative

All classes are drop off.

2.5 years old – 4 years old. Must register for at least twice a week. This class is drop off.

This class provides a 100% immersion in Mandarin. They learn the Chinese language, math, science, and nature through songs, movement and colorful visuals in a warm and nurturing environment. We paint, cook, sing and speak! Stories are always the highlight of the class while the children enjoy the provided snacks!

Non Fluent 3 – 5 Years Old

All classes are drop off.

3-5 Beg (Beginning)

This class is drop off.

These 3 to 5 years olds are sociable and enjoy seeing their friends each week just like in regular school. Some English will be used throughout the class but is expected to gradually reduce to none when the students will get ready to move to the IMS (immersion) level. For those who enroll in the 1.5 hour class, we dedicate the last half an hour just for sentence formation.

3-5 IMS (Immersion)

This class is drop off.

This is a class where the teacher speaks 100% Mandarin. The main purpose of this course is further development of oral communication and understanding. Simple reading and writing are introduced through games and other children’s learning materials. The children will learn to speak in more complex sentences.

 

Non Fluent 5 – 8 Years Old

All classes are drop off.

5-8 Beg (Beginning)

This class is drop off.

These 5 to 8 years old are sociable and enjoy seeing their friends each week just like in regular school. Some English will be used throughout the class but is expected to gradually reduce to none when the students reach the Immersion level. We extend our curriculum to cover topics such as school, home, cities and the world.

5-8 IMS (Immersion; Students must have some knowledge of Pinyin)

This class is drop off.

This is a class where the teacher speaks 100% Mandarin. The main purpose of this course is oral communication and understanding. Reading and writing is introduced through games and children’s learning materials. They interact with each other in Mandarin and have a degree of fluency and spontaneity. The children enhance their speaking skills through show and tell, situational conversations, poem recitations and story composition. Homework will be given regularly.

 

Non Fluent 9 – 12 Years Old

All classes are drop off.

9-12 Beg (Beginning)

This class is drop off.

These kids are mature enough to be taught using a more traditional approach. Textbooks and dictionaries will be used for their reference. Our focus is on building their confidence in speaking and writing Mandarin Chinese at home and in public settings. Students design their own Chinese journal to showcase their progress.

9-12 IMS (Immersion; Students must know Pinyin)

This class is drop off.

This is a class where the teacher speaks 100% Mandarin. Children's enthusiasm for music, books, and movies is used to motivate and stimulate their interest in Chinese. Students are expected to engage smoothly in Chinese dialogue. They can communicate with confidence about daily events and other topics of interest to them. This class is taught using a more traditional approach and a textbook may be used to supplement our teaching. In every class, we feature our weekly dialogue where students practice speaking and acting!

Students must be familiar with Pinyin before they can move to 9-12 IMS level.

Fluent 3 – 5 Years Old

FL-1 (Fluent Core Language Level 1; recommended age: 3-5 years old)

This class is drop off.

This course is designed for fluent speakers who are not yet writing. Each week, we will introduce a short rhyme or poem through games and other activities. Fun games are played to engage and encourage students to recognizing Chinese characters. Simple writing, math concepts and patterns will be introduced. Required weekly homework will include memorizing and reciting class materials, forming sentences verbally and recognizing 10 Chinese characters. Optional writing homework will be given to those who are ready to write. There must be someone at home who can support the student’s homework and supplement their weekly learning. One test will be given each semester.

Note: A student must be enrolled in an FL class at least 2x per week during the week. In the “FL1-T” class, we use the same text but students have lighter homework requirements. Students will move to FL1 upon completion of all FL1-T homework and tests.

 

Fluent 5 – 7 Years Old

FL-2 (Fluent Core Language Level 2; recommended age: 5-7 years old)

This class is drop off.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to write and recognize simple Chinese characters. Each week, we introduce a short article or poem. The main focus is to further develop students’ abilities to form and express sentences and short paragraphs. Required weekly homework includes memorizing and reciting class material, dictation, making sentences in Chinese characters, and writing. There must be someone at home who can support the student’s homework and supplement their weekly learning. Two tests will be given each semester.

Note: A student must be enrolled in an FL class at least 2x per week during the week. In “FL2-T” class, we use the same text but students have lighter homework requirement. Students will move to FL2 upon completion of all FL2-T homework and tests.

 

Fluent 8 – 12 Years Old

FL-3 (Fluent Core Language Level 3; recommended age: 8-12 years old)

This class is drop off.

Students enrolled in this class must be able to recognize common Chinese characters and write short paragraphs. Students are taught to express more complicated sentences verbally and in writing. Students are exposed to a variety of reading material such as magazines and newspapers. Required weekly homework includes memorizing and reciting class material, dictation, composing short paragraphs in Chinese characters, and writing. Two tests will be given each semester.

Han Artists (3+ years old)

Your child will create art with various mediums while learning to speak Mandarin! Your child will be completely immersed in the magical world of art, and learn to appreciate, create, and express themselves through various mediums!

Han Chefs (3+ years old)

Have fun in Planet Han’s kitchen while learning Mandarin! An innovative cooking class for children designed to inspire, excite, and encourage love of healthy food. Participants increase their Chinese vocabulary; learn about techniques, tools, utensils, and ingredients; and pick up basics of etiquette, nutrition, and kitchen safety. Teacher uses little English during the class.
